All SIATech graduates leave with a major accomplishment: the award of their high school diploma. This diploma serves as a foundation for a lifetime of opportunity. Nearly all SIATech graduates pursue a college education, join the military, or enter the workforce in a new career that would not have been previously available to them.

Featured Student: Stefan McNeill
SIATech at San Diego Job Corps student Stefan McNeill was recently recognized for his creative writing. Stefan is a San Diego native. Prior to entering Job Corps and enrolling in the SIATech high school program, Stefan said he was just sitting at home. Personal and social distractions kept him from doing his best in the previous schools that he attended, and he commented that his parents did not pay much attention to his education. Within the SIATech program, Stefan has done well. Some of his favorite things about SIATech are his English class and the school's helpful teachers. Stefan feels his future is "bright because I notice I have a lot of potential if I apply myself." Stefan is on track to graduate from high school in March 2009. After graduation, Stefan plans to work in the welding trade that he has learned through his Job Corps training. Click here to read Stefan's poem, Losing Doesn't Define a Loser.
Winter 2009 Art Contest
An introduction to "The Fire" by Anfernee Butler When gold becomes old and rusted there’s a stage in its rusted life when it goes through something called smelting, and through this smelting period the gold becomes very hot in a pot until it melts. When the gold melts all its dirt and rust floats to the top of the pot and the gold smith scoops it all off. Once that process is over the gold is then poured out, cools and is made brand new again. The old gold was me, the old rust was my past and hurts, the gold smith was my SIATech instructors and principal, and now I can stand here today and smile knowing that I'm made new again. So I encourage you today to say, we all have to go through the fire so our value is set higher because we're all worth something.
Congratulation to all students who entered from participating sites: Gainesville, Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, San Jose, Homestead and Phoenix. All students received certificates of participation. View full list of student winners.

Student StoryOne recent graduate, Jenny Palacios of the Los Angeles SIATech campus received recognition for outstanding academic achievement despite many obstacles. Jenny arrived at SIATech functionally illiterate. She had been struggling to make ends meet as the mother of two young children with little family support. With a lot of hard work and through the attention of the SIATech staff, particularly teacher Leebrina Blackwill, Jenny earned her high school diploma. She works full-time as a secretary. Jenny has plans to attend junior college and become a teacher. View the story on Jenny's award here.
